I can go on and on about the shots, the coloring, the composition, but where they got me was costumes, the costumes were phenomenal. It was like the customer designer reached into my mind and pulled out exactly how I envisioned the Fremen would dress. At the end, when Paul was dressed in that hood, Lady Jessica’s ensemble and the person in the Mask holding the water of life! Bro.
I really enjoyed the Feyd in the arena and the fireworks, which looked like exploding ink, were dope. The entire scene was very creative, which is very ironic since it was in black and white.
An interesting concept I think a lot of people may have missed was the requirement to be a WARRIOR before you can lead. The whole, don’t blindly trust charismatic leaders concept was there as well, but you can’t get to the leader part without first becoming a warrior.
Both Paul and Feyd had to prove themselves in battle before being accepted as competent leaders, and, more importantly, it had to be REAL.
Feyd had to remove his shield and kill Lanville, who also wasn’t drugged. The Baron wouldn’t accept a fake fight.
Chani wouldn’t accept Paul until he fought and killed.
Lives needed to be risked.
The Baron understood this, as he set the whole thing up with Feyd, and Chani understood it unconsciously. Shishakli didn’t accept Paul until he fought. He didn’t get his Fremen name until he fought.
I think we as humans, all of us, understand, either consciously or unconsciously, that in order to lead, you must first fight. Struggle. Risk your life. Show, through a REAL fight, that you have the strength to lead. It’s engrained in us. It’s funny when all the weirdos think they’d good leaders because they’re so smart, when, according to human nature, no one would follow them.
Maybe thats one reason, among many, why our world is declining so much.
