New Beginnings

The iPhone alarm went off and Adam opened his eyes and snatched the phone from the nightstand. He stared at the screen and smashed his finger against the orange button, silencing the dreadful annoyance.

He really needed to change the alarm tone to something that encouraged him to wake up in a peaceful mood, rather than a violent one. His vision focused and he noticed a WhatsApp notification from Frenchie.

Frenchie.

His relationship with her was unpredictable to say the least. They had chemistry, and the first night they met had been great. Then, she put him on the side in order to give another guy a chance, only for him to randomly run into her last night. Now she text him:

Just wanted to give you an update on last night

An update? Why would she care. She was clearly stringing him along, but, he didn’t care since he was talking to other girls to. As always, he somewhat enjoyed the little relationship games he found himself in, and this wasn’t the first, or the last he was sure, he’d be a guy on the side. Sometimes you’re number 1, sometimes you’re number 2, but as long as you’re enjoying yourself, it didn’t really matter. Plus, he might as well keep the door open. This dude abandoned her once before, so there was a good chance he'd do so again.

She updated him. Apparently, Hippo was so drunk she forgot most of the night and Frenchie barely managed to get her out of the car. Typical drunk night.

Last night was insane. You’re the last person I expected to see, Adam text.

She responded with laughing emojis.

This is how it is? We planning the next time we see each other, or we just gonna randomly run into each other? Date via accident?

Yea. Can’t plan anything right now. If we see each other, we see each other.

A brief pang of sadness hit Adam but disappeared just as quick.

Alright girl. I had fun last night. Let me know next time you’re not with your boyfriend.

Yes. I’ll let you know.

Adams mind raced, trying to come up with a clever response, but he decided against it. Better to just accept things as they are and go from there. Nothing worse than looking desperate and needy, and more to the point, why did he need to look desperate and needy in the first place. He opened his phone. He had three active WhatsApp conversations with three different girls, two on Hinge and three on Tinder. One of the girls, although way better looking that Frenchie, didn’t have much to offer personality wise. Frenchie was still his number two and for now, until they saw each other again, that’s just how it needed to be.
