Why I Listen to Spanish Music
What happened to R&B? There used to be songs like Pretty Brown Eyes by Mint Condition:
https://youtu.be/4OuXVn4Aad8
Pretty brown eyesYou know I see youIt's a disguise the way you treat me
You keep holding onTo your thoughts of rejectionIf you're with me you're secured
You keep telling meThat your time is always takenBut I keep seeing you out alone
Listen to loveYour heart is pounding with desireWaiting to be unleashed
Now there’s songs like Pu$$y fairy by Jhene Aiko
https://youtu.be/wy2ujCUtCHU
Cause I got you sprung off in the spring timeFuck all your free timeYou don't need no me timeThat's you and me timeWe be gettin' so loudThat dick make my soul smileThat dick make me so damn proudNow lay your head down on the pillowTurn the lights down real lowI want you to say my nameClose your eyes and let your feels goNow you're gettin' real closeBaby, I am on the way
My problem isn’t so much with the content, but how explicit everything is. When I was growing up, we had songs like TLC Red Light Special, where you had to be of certain experience to know what they were talking about. There was creativity behind it. They didn’t just come out and say it. If you don’t believe me, go to the Apple Music R&B now and listen to the songs. With the exception of a couple of songs, they’re all like that, and IMO they barely qualify as R&B (that’s a convo for another post).
Now, compare the above songs to Curame by Prince Royce

Woman, I want your loveNot having you is a problemAnd your kisses are my solution How do you do it when you don't have meHow you calm your soulTell me if you feel that this doesn't workTell me now Tell me if there is another who overheats youLet me find you at the same time If you let me I will be back to fall in loveIf that's the caseBaby, I just want to love you It's obvious that you are my addictionHeal me, heal me womanIf everything is a matter of you giving me your love.
Spanish songs have the lyrics I miss in old R&B. Now, I just have to leave Spanish....
