Dragonlance vs WOTC

I must admit, Margeraet Weis and Tracy Hickman, who, IMO, created one of the greatest fantasy worlds of all time, suing Wizards of the Coast fills me with a nostalgic sense of pride.  The lawsuit also notes that Weis and Hickman, as they were writing  Dragons of Deceit , had complied with several requests from Wizards that “proposed certain changes in keeping with the modern-day zeitgeist of a more inclusive and diverse story-world,” which Wizards was entitled to do by the terms of their licensing agreement. Weis and Hickman claim in the suit to have complied with all requested rewrites, including one that reportedly took 70 pages to resolve, over issues that included the story’s use of love potions, certain characters’ names having negative connotations, and unspecified matters of inclusivity. That does raise an obvious follow-up question, however. In the version of events presented in Weis and Hickman’s lawsuit, which is the only version we have access to at time of w...

It's not Race its Culture

Image
Boxing mirrors real life example #1: In the world of boxing, white people are less privileged than minorities. In the world of American boxing, Asians are less privileged than blacks and Mexicans. This is a culture issue, not a race issue. If a specific race really was privileged, that privilege would carry over everywhere. Since we don't see that happening, such as in areas of boxing, we can conclude that a race is not privileged, but really privilege is determined by culture, which is determined by, for the most part, reality. The sport of boxing came around, which is really a meritocracy, and thus, eventually, blacks and latinos started emerging as the dominant boxers, which in turn, makes people living in the culture of boxing value black and latinos. Same thing with pretty much all sports. The culture of education favors asians. The culture of America favors white people. The culture of Japan favors Japanese people. If you want to break into a culture where you're NOT FAVO...

Hype Train Derailed!

View this post on Instagram The Lomachenko disrespect has to stop. When he came into the division there were 4 separate belts. Now there's a unified champion and most of that was down to him. I don't even like Lomachenko. For multiple reasons I won't get in to. But as boxing fans we always complain about the best fighting the best. Anyone who was a champion at lightweight Loma wanted to fight. And the weight classes he was in before. He isn't even a lightweight and still was in the undisputed fight. I'm not making excuses. It's just nice to see the best fighting the best which is why we were all so excited for last night. He didn't duck two time email champion Devin Haney. No matter what. You have to respect someone who did everything they could to unify the division and try to become undisputed. The best fighting the best that's what it's all about. The biggest take away from last night. Don't crown someone too early. I'v...

Skill. The only thing that matters.

Teofimo Lopez Sr. send Vasyl Lomachenko straight to hell. 🤣 pic.twitter.com/l7CBQpq1ML — Most Valid Opinion MVO Uncensored Podcast (@izdatyofaceee) October 13, 2020 In boxing, as in life, the ability, the skill one possesses to do whatever it is they're supposed to do, is the only thing that matters.  Everything else pales in comparison. Whatever one does, it needs to be with the purpose of increasing the skill or ability, otherwise its pointless.

Why Everyone Hates the Company Man

I was watching some old UFC fights, specifically DC vs Jon Jones 1 & 2, and it made me recall something Joe Rogan said on his podcast a while back. He mentioned how much he didn't understand why the fans had so much disdain and hatred for DC, even going as far as to like Jon Jones over DC.  In a later interview or podcast, he mentioned how he didn't understand why the fans didn't like Mighty Mouse either, which made he recall an interview, where Mighty Mouse said something along the lines of the following: "I don't do anything. I don't get in trouble, I don't do drugs or beat my wife. I just win fights, go home, and play video games. I'm a company man." It dawned on me, that DC and Mighty Mouse were similar in the fact they they're both amazing fighters. Definitely hall of fame material.  DC won championships at light heavy and heavyweight, and was absolutely dominate at light heavyweight for years, his only losses being Jon Jones which we...

Ghosts of Tsushima

Image
It isn't graphics (although they're great), it isn't the gameplay (although that's great), it isn't the story (that's great as well) its the characters. More specifically, its one character, the protagonists, Jin Sakai.  I can't think of another video game character, aside from maybe Master Chief, that resonates with me so much. Stop reading if you don't want spoilers. His backstory is great. His father was murdered by bandits leaving Jin the last member of the Sakai clan. The mongols invade the island of Tsushima, and Jin, along with every single samurai on the island, engage in a bloody battle on the beach of komoda.  During the battle, all the samurai die, while the leader, Lord Shimura, Jins uncle is captured.  Jin himself, sustain a wound that leaves him unconcious only to be brought back to life by the thief, Yuna.  It is here that Jin's journey from honor bound samurai to the "whatever it takes" Ghost is extraordinary.  It isn'...

The Sweet Science

Image
I'm not going to sit here and say fighting should be at the top of high culture, but its definitely a better medium than pretty much anything under NPR.  The fact that it is placed at the bottom shows the person that wrote this thinks all fighting is nothing but mindless brutal violence. Two bloody men beating each other senseless with their fists, knees, and elbows while a drunken crowd cheers on. While this does happen (just like 50 shades of grey is written porn) it ignores the actual science and skill of the sport.  One most possess a certain level of intelligence, to understand timing, angles, and technique, to fight at a high level.  The "educated liberal elite" looking down his nose at fighters as "uneducated barbarians" is no different than "ignorant backwoods racist" looking down his nose at black people as "dim-witted inferiors". It comes from the same place. Ignorance.

Satan's Temptation pt. 2

Image
The main theme of this video is separation. Lupe talks about how these people, who are more than likely possessed themselves, try to separate their victims from the people that keep them grounded.  After the separation is complete, and the victim is isolated, they're then provided with a "team" that reinforces the negative behavior.  Do we not see this with satan? did the demons not possess the man and make him live in the cemetery by himself? is Divide and Conquer not a concept that's been practiced for ages? Lupe is saying nothing new here, but its still refreshing to hear. The second half of the video, he goes on to reinforce the need to keep sane company around, or, as the bible puts it in Proverbs 13:20 Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. I'd like to note, that in regards to Elon Musk, Lupe is halfway right.  He's right in that Elon Musk is just a regular person, but wrong in his inability to grasp the ab...

Satan's Temptation

Image
Lupe Fiasco describes how the entertainment industry corrupts people, or more specifically, how people in the entertainment industry corrupt people.  They start of with the lie and feed the victims ego. "It was all you. They don't need you, YOU and ONLY YOU are the source of your success."  I wonder if this is the reason why, when someone "makes it big," their art usually begins to suck.  Its because they were convinced, by blood sucking leeches, to abandon the team that got them there in the first place, and once the team is gone, and the artist, their pride and ego over flowing, tries to 'do it on their own,' they can't. They think " IF IM IM THE TALENT, then I can make gold with anyone. I don't need my original team, they're all replaceable because I'M THE TALENT." That's when we get albums like MBDTF, Yeezus, Pablo, etc. Its why Alicia Keys fell all the way off. NO ONE can do it on their own.  I can't help but pictur...

Kids and Communism

Son got an early lesson in communism today. Basically, he and his friends built a fort in a nearby forest. They probably spent a total of three entire days clearing it out and building it. One of his new friends, who only recently arrived in the neighborhood, saw their project, then showed up to the house one day and said “he wanted it.” My son stepped out of the house and said “you can’t have it. Me and my friends built it, but you can build in another part of the forest.” The friend looked confused, then talked about how it wasn’t fair and my son said kept saying no. He even went as far as saying he couldn’t make the decision because the rest of his friends weren’t there. After my wife told me what happened I promptly rewarded him with an extra hour of video game time. He deserved it.

Still Not Going to Buy One

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2020-09-21-xbox-buys-bethesda-parent-zenimax Microsoft has announced the surprise acquisition of ZeniMax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks. The deal cost $7.5 billion and expands the number of development studios Microsoft owns from 15 to 23. It also adds 2,300 employees and some significant games IP to Xbox's portfolio. Among Bethesda's internal development teams were Bethesda Game Studios -- responsible for Elder Scrolls and Fallout -- as well as Doom developer id Software, Dishonored creator Arkane, Wolfenstein dev Machine Games, The Evil Within team Tango Gameworks, ZeniMax Online Studios, Alpha Dog and Roundhouse Studios.  Still won't be buying an Xbox. Fallout sucks and the sequel to Skyrim is only one game, but judging by how bad Fallout76 was, I don't think the Skyrim sequel will be any good.  Xbox only had two games I want, Halo and Ori, but thankfully, Ori just dropped on the switch...

Empty Standards

Image
For starters, I'm not calling anyone out. This is a response to the statement, not the person making the statement. With that being said, I must disagree with this statement. For the most part, people "with standards" are assholes. Now, before anyone screams "HA! You just told on yourself," allow me to explain. Before I joined the military, I boxed for six years, and the standards in the boxing world were, do your road work, eat clean, don't drink or do drugs, study the craft, come to practice. When I was a novice, I never hated anyone that lived up to those standards. Why? because they made sense. Don't do your road work, you'll gas out and get your ass kicked. Don't eat clean, you'll miss weight and get your ass kicked. Drink and do drugs, you'll become distracted and get your ass kicked. Miss practice, you'll get your ass kicked. That's how it was. If one was going to succeed in the fight world, one had no choice but to meet t...

Talented Diversity Suffers pt.1

Unsurprising, but the push for diversity and inclusion is actually hurting POC in the creative industry . So fuck the creators who use "diversity" as a selling point instead of promoting the STORY   because then a person who wants to pitch a show with an authentic diverse cast (not for the purpose of promoting diversity) gets put on the backburner bc executives will think it'll flop like that other show they funded   the worst part, its the SAME progressive looking white women who are ruining the chances of all the POC out there who have a cartoon idea and the lead just HAPPENS to look like them! (imagine a japanese man getting told his japanese male lead character is "too SJW") Hopefully this is my first and only,(I doubt it) post about politics, but this is too important to pass up. It’s integral. Update: the original twitter thread was deleted, but it was archived in the link provided.  Here  is a twitter thread linking to the original (deleted) twitter threa...

Movie Quotes

I never put much stock into movie quotes. To me they always seem like pseudo intellectual catch phrases designed to make the common critical thinking lacking human being say 'whoa, that's deep.' Well, from time to time I tend to eat my words and this happens to be one of those times. I've heard these words hundreds of times, but this short phrase, uttered by an even shorter character, is actually quite sound. "Do, or do not. There is no try." A simple statement, but it is true, there is no try. You're either doing it or you are not doing it, trying to do something is by definition to have not done it yet, thus putting you in the category of 'do not.' A surprisingly insightful quote, one which demands further elaboration in the future and one which has made me think to pay attention a little bit more to movie quotes, as I am now wondering what other nuggets I might've missed.

Donald Trump and Secret Societies

Growing up, I had a friend that was into to conspiracy theories pretty heavy. His logic went something like this: 1. There exists a group of people that control the world called the Illuminati. 2. The Illuminati is evil and wants to bring about satanic one world government 3. The Illuminati controls who is electeed president. Back then, (even now) I was a bit dubious about #1 and #3 but concede that if #1 was true then #2 was as well (it doesn’t logically follow, however, but that’s another argument).   However, the 2016 election put a huge dent into that logic because everyone, the media, foreign governments, EVERYONE, thought Hilary was going to win. In fact, the establishment was pushing for Hilary to win, and yet, Trump not only became president but will most likely win a second term, which leads me to believe the following: 1. The Illuminati doesn’t exist  2. The Illuminati exists but doesn’t have enough power to control who’s elected president 3. The Illuminati exists, a...

God Speaking

In times like this, as we’re surrounded by people claiming God is speaking to them, it is important to be reminded, that God only directly spoke to a handful of people. Furthermore, there are periods of biblical history where decades, even hundreds of years went by, without any record of God speaking. I’m sure there are reasons for this, everything from “He spoke but it wasn’t recorded,” to “he worked in more silent and subtle ways,” but something that is almost always overlooked and ignored is the fact that we should be wary about ANYONE that claims God has spoke or is speaking to them.

Spiritual Warfare

Image
I recall Wilder saying he was going to Africa after the fight. Maybe it was a vacation, or maybe it’s to speak to more “ancestral spirits” i.e. demons.

When socialism works

The military is communism. You get paid, based off of rank, rather than the work you do, which leads to “unfairness” and “inequality.”  For instance: in the Air Force, flightline mechanics  often work long hours (12-13 hours) at all hours of the day (shift work)  in the elements (extreme cold and heat) with hazardous chemicals (often known to cause cancer), under heavy scrutiny (QA and leadership). They’re days off, time off and holidays are regularly taken away. The flightline mechanic doesn’t have time during work to go to PT to help pass their PT or go to school or volunteer. While finance (people that handle money) work banker hours in air conditioned buildings and almost always get their days off, time off, holidays and weekends. A SSgt working on the flightline and a SSgt  working fianance get paid the exact same, despite being held to the same expectations as the finance SSgt. And yet, it “works.” I put works in quotes because, at its base, planes are flying, ...

Why I Listen to Spanish Music

What happened to R&B? There used to be songs like  Pretty Brown Eyes by Mint Condition: https://youtu.be/4OuXVn4Aad8 Pretty brown eyes You know I see you It's a disguise the way you treat me You keep holding on To your thoughts of rejection If you're with me you're secured You keep telling me That your time is always taken But I keep seeing you out alone Listen to love Your heart is pounding with desire Waiting to be unleashed Now there’s songs like  Pu$$y fairy by Jhene Aiko https://youtu.be/wy2ujCUtCHU Cause I got you sprung off in the spring time Fuck all your free time You don't need no me time That's you and me time We be gettin' so loud That dick make my soul smile That dick make me so damn proud Now lay your head down on the pillow Turn the lights down real low I want you to say my name Close your eyes and let your feels go Now you're gettin' real close Baby, I am on the way My problem isn’t so much wi...

There’s Levels to Each Game

This applies to both boxing and real life. Mikey Garcia’s victory over Jessie Vargas really shows HOW GOOD, Errol Spence is and how good Mikey is. For Mikey to climb to 147 and not only beat Jessie Vargas, but drop him in the process, shows how good he is, which makes Errol Spence’s absolute domination over him that much better. It also shows how bad Adrian Broner is (he drew with Vargas). I remember, after Spence beat Mikey, people were kinda whatever about it, but now, people are starting to acknowledge how good Spence is.  Sometimes it takes someone else’s failure to really show how good you are. This type of validation applies outside of the ring because you never know how good you are until someone else comes along and attempts to do what you did. If they fail (as Jessie Vargas did) then it’s a somewhat objective measure of your abilities. Most of the time, as with everyone after the Spence fight, they don’t care, but you, as a person,  need to make note of this, and real...

Confirmation Bias or Truth?

Does race not play a  role ? Or am I simply engaging in confirmation bias?

Nostalgia

These  two   images  show the shortcomings of nostalgia in regards to video games.  I remember going through similar feelings years ago, but why isn’t it like this with old music? Why only video games? I suspect, it’s because those games were something that we finished. There was a finality to it, a challenge that we all took on and completed.  What’s the point of going back? There’s no challenge to listening to music.

More to the Fight

Image
More to the fight For me, there’s there parts to this fight. Nationalism: Wilder was an American Heavyweight Champion. That should mean something. It used to.  Every other nation backs their fighter. When the Ricky Hatton fought Mayweather, the UK came in droves, banging drums and singing Christmas carols. When Pacquiao fights, the entire Philippines is behind him. When a Hispanic fights, the entire Hispanic population is behind him, and yet, when an American fighter is fighting, it is pretty common for Americans to be  against  the American fighter.   It’s an odd phenomenon that doesn’t limit itself to sports (that’s a whole other series of posts). Wilder vs Fury was an American heavyweight champion vs the UK lineal heavyweight champ, and yet, in my experience, most Americans were rooting against Wilder. And their reasoning doesn’t matter. no excuse is good enough. If 1938 Americans can set aside their racism (real racism, not the fake racism ...

He’s right. Fury put on 18lbs for this fight. Ask Ruiz how that worked out for him during his rematch with A.J.  Wilder KO. Round 8,9, or 10.
