Surprise

Disclaimer Part 1. Part 2. Surprise Adam, Pan, and Bredik road in the van in silence. Bredik, a husky black man with glasses rode in the back, his face illuminated by his phone, while Pan rode up front, next to Adam, who drove, keeping his eyes on the foggy road. “Man, I can’t believe that place,” Pan said, as he leaned his head against the window. “We got denied out of three clubs.” “Yea,” Adam said, shaking his head. “That was crazy. We drove an hour to Manheim only for the bouncers to tell us we can’t come in. Crazy.” Pan shook his head and lifted his phone. “The first club, the bouncers asked if we had a reservation. I’ve never been asked if I had a reservation at a club before.” “Yea, and the second one—” “The second one was trash,” Bredik said, shouting from the backseat. “Pan, that was your fault. You was like, yea, one of the bouncers is black, we should be good.” Adam chuckled. “When we got to the front of the line, the dude looked at us, shook his head and ...

He is Born. Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Matthew 1:21 “She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Isaiah 9:6 - "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Amen.

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve Luke 2:11-12 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” As a sinner, I'm forever grateful for the birth of Jesus Christ. I know the things I've done, am doing, and will do, have earned me a spot in hell, and I'm forever grateful for His sacrifice. Amen.

Environment Matters

Image
Whether or not this article is true is irrelevant, the message is important. If you are talented, special, have a passion, whatever, and your environment isn't cultivating your skills, you need to leave as soon as you are able. That last part is important: As soon as you are ABLE. Don't leave your job unless you're financially stable enough to do so.  I've seen this more times than I can count while serving in the military. The military, actually ANY bureaucracy, does not recognize, promote, and often dismisses and goes through great length to get rid of talent and skill. I've got dozens of theories and ideas as to why this is, everything from incompetence to jealousy, but the why doesn't matter, just the fact that it does. Don't take it personal, don't whine, just realize what you have and make a plan so you can cultivate it, grow it, turn it into something you can support yourself with. The inverse also happens a lot, where unskilled, terrible people...

Culture Isn't Transferable

Ready for this energy in Boulder 🤞🏻 pic.twitter.com/blgOC2hqBY — Taylor Kilgore (@TaylorKilgore33) December 3, 2022 I've already written about Sanders deciding to become the head coach at Colorado . Time will tell if he'll do there what he did at Jackson State, but this post isn't about his abilities as a coach.  This is about culture.  The above tweet shows Deion standing on the field, bobbing his head, as the crowd sings along with a rap song. The energy is off the charts. Its loud, its hype, but its a different type of loud, a different type of hype. The energy you hear and see in the clip, is black culture. Disclaimer: I'm not saying black culture is better or worse than any other culture, I'm simply making an observation.  The woman who tweeted this, Tayler Kilgore, didn't know the can of worms she opened when she expressed her eagerness to see this same energy in Boulder, Colorado.  Here's some quick statistics: According to census.gov , Boulder, C...

Recognizing Intuition pt 2.

Image
Pt 1. The Speed of Intuition                   I've said it before, but it bears repeating: "If you have to think about a move, you're already a thought behind." This, of course, applies to fighting, where reactions must be quick, and falling behind, even a thought behind, can make the difference between a clean blow, a glancing blow, or a complete miss, which, depending on the power of the blow, can lead to substantial damage. Obviously, this doesn't translate 100% out of fighting, but, we're talking about recognizing an intuitive person. You tell someone to do something, there's going to be three types of people. The first type of person is going to plan, research, and look at the data before they do it. The second type of person is going to just start doing it, and figure it out as they go along. The third type of person is going to disappear, let the first two people do it, then come back later.  This is obvious stuff, but what isn'...

Get In Line

Image
Disclaimer Part 1. Get In Line   Adam lay on his bed, as early Weeknd song, one of his first hits, played from his Iphone, as he and Frenchie went back and forth on WhatsApp. They’d known each other for two weeks, but it had become customary to text, or sometimes video chat, before Frenchie went to bed. I want to video chat, Frenchie asked. Aight, Adam responded. The ring tone sounded, and moments later Frenchie’s face popped up on the screen. She’s laying down, her face half lit from the lamp beside her bed. “Whats up?” Adam asked. She sat up. “I need to tell you something.” “Alright.” She paused, and Adam noticed, for the first time he’d known her, she looked sad. “There’s this guy, I really liked him, and we were talking for like 3 months, then suddenly, he stopped talking to me. Well, he called me today, saying he’s sorry and he stopped talking to me because he had mental health problems.” Here we go… Adam thought. Still, no matter what, always gotta play it...

Disclaimer: Military Stories

I thought this obvious, but it needs to be said. Names, locations, and some details found in any of my military stories were changed to protect the identities of both the innocent and guilty. Some of these stories are about me, while some are about my friends and coworkers, but everything is based on true, actual events.

The 3rd Wheel

Image
Disclaimer The 3 rd Wheel   “Bro, there’s nothing attractive about this girl at all, to me. Other people might like that, but not me,” Adam said, as he thumbed through the profile pictures of a fat girl that liked him on Tinder. “Man,” Pan waved his hand dismissively. “She bad. I’d take her down.” Adam, Pan, Elbe, and large white man named Homer, sat side by side at a bar. The bar, located in a restaurant called Gladiators, was at the top floor in the hotel. Pretty standard by most bar standards, it had a fair number of booths on the wall, a couple tables in the middle, and T.V. screens playing soccer. Adam shook his head. “Ay, man. That’s more for you, because I don’t want it.” He turned to Elbes, a large black man with a full beard and black glasses and showed him the girl. “Elbes, what you think?” Elbes, who was already 6 beers deep, squinted, then looked at Pan. “Ay, Pan. That’s all you, bro.” Pan sucked his teeth. “Man, ya’ll some weirdos. She look good.” ...

Actions and Words: Coach Deion Sanders Edition

Image
You guys know my thoughts on motivational speakers. They're unaccomplished slick talkers who speak empty words for exorbitant amounts of money. I've been around this talk for most of my life. Football, boxing, and in the military. Especially in the military. You'll find this type of talk from your motivational masculine guru's as well. They all repeat the same cliches:  "God confirmed it."  "There's going to be a different energy."  "No hats."  "No earrings."  "No phones."  "Look to your right, look to your left, half of you will be gone."  "I Won't accept mediocrity."  Sounds nice, but to people like me, who've heard this time and time again, they're just empty words. Except, when the person has the credentials to back it up. Deion Sanders, back in the day, was a phenomenal athlete. I won't post his accomplishments, a simple google search should suffice, but he ha...

On Ye

Image
My exchange with Brian Niemier promoted me to write this: For the record, I have no problem with Brian. I just wanted to use our exchange to talk about a broader point. Ever since Ye started leaning more to the right, people on the right want to say Ye's been labeled crazy for 'speaking the truth,' but people on the right, who've only recently accepted Ye into their fold, haven't dealt with him since he burst on the hip hop scene in 2004 with his debut album College dropout.  Long story short, Ye has mental problems. How bad they are is up for debate, but there's no doubt Ye has mental problems. The evidence is there, and the evidence is strong. My argument is simple. Ye has been crazy long before his 2022 rants about jews, the media, porn and God. "Ye is crazy" isn't some new narrative created to silence Ye for "speaking the truth." If it was, there wouldn't be evidence of his mental instability dating back to 2018. I've spoke ab...
