Champions and Discipline

My nutritionist said I can make 135lbs if I didn’t eat so many snacks. I said I rather stay at 140lbs and keep my snacks 😄 — Rougarou (@RPrograis) August 16, 2022 Internet gurus will pontificate about how discipline builds champions and how you shouldn’t play video games and eat snacks and yet we have a boxing champion who’d rather eat snacks than lose 5 pounds.  Granted, Rougarou has made it to the top so he can afford to slack off, wheats the average person hasn’t done anything in their life, and thus cannot. That’s beside the point.

Comebacks

Deontay Wilder set to return in October for first fight since Tyson Fury loss https://t.co/ctJoRn08uK — talkSPORT (@talkSPORT) August 10, 2022 Almost a year later, Wilder returns against a tune up fight. Historically, a fighter is never the same after a knockout loss, especially the type of damage Wilder sustained in the trilogy fight with Fury, still… his right hand is a nuclear weapon and it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets his belts back. Should he do that, mark my words, he’ll go from current reviled status to the nations darling. Everyone loved a comeback story.

Logic doesn’t work

Calvin is logically right. Moe doesn’t care about logic. In the absence of a mutually agreed upon authority (in this case the immediate presence of a teacher) power wins.

Excuses Excuses

Image
An excuse is defined as: 1. To make an apology for 2. To try and remove blame from In my experience, people have the inability to separate a good excuse from a bad excuse, and I think it’s because a lot of factors go into differentiating a good excuse from a bad excuse. Boxer: “I broke my hand, so I didn’t win the fight.” Fan: “excuses excuses.” Not winning a fight because of a broken hand is, IMO, a good excuse. In boxing, the primary means of scoring is with your fists, and if one of your hands are broken, it makes it harder to score. Yes, some fighters have won a fight with a broken hand, but I’d say, depending on the severity of the injury, it’s still a good excuse.  Boxer: “I got tired, so I didn’t win the fight.” Fan: “excuses excuses.” The fact that this is true, because it’s very difficult to win a fight when you’re tired, this is still a bad excuse, since the fighter had ample time to get in shape, which mitigates fatigue. Good excuses and bad excuses, but they’re both, ac...

Talented Diversity Suffers pt 3

Image
The girl pictured above is Kimberly, a new fighter introduced in Street Fighter 6. I came across the following comment in an IGN article: If Kimberly had been released during the SF4 era, would anyone have complained about gender swapping? When Sakura was introduced, back in 1996, was anyone complaining about gender swapping? Or race swapping? Again, the point I’m trying to make, is these activists have been actively hurting the very same DEI they claim to be fighting for.  Now, when a company introduces a minority character, even if they do it right, people are going to be hesitant, and rightly so.

Ryan vs Peña 3

Image
Looks like Gordon Ryan avenged one of two losses against Peña, but the real highlight is the amount of focus, endurance, and skill required to grapple for 45 minutes straight. The fact that neither fighter got a submission only adds to the practically inhuman levels of athleticism and skill.

Talented Diversity Suffers pt. 2

https://www.ign.com/articles/john-boyega-disney-sidelining-non-white-star-wars-characters-criticism "It's so difficult to manoeuvre," Boyega explained. "You get yourself involved in projects and you're not necessarily going to like everything. [But] what I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side. It's not good. I'll say it straight  I remember when the movie was announced and the first trailers were shown, everyone talking about how Boyega the token and Disney was pandering. We were all told to shut up and we were wrong and FINALLY Star Wars was getting representation (despite Samuel Jackson playing Mace Windu in the prequels). As it turns out, we were right.

Does marriage make you soft?

Alexander Gustafsson has not won a fight since this picture was taken😔 pic.twitter.com/n1MndkY6Pc — Super Fan🇮🇪 (@McGregorRousey) July 26, 2022 I wouldn’t say marriage makes you soft, as there are plenty of fighters who are married and still competitive, just as there are plenty of unmarried fighters who aren’t competitive. I’d say comfort, specially, desiring comfort and disregarding discipline makes you soft.

Stupid Sayings pt. 2

“Success = preparation + opportunity” -Zig Ziglar Like most guru quotes, after applying a second of critical thought, you realize this only makes sense emotionally. Success = preparation + opportunity is just as true Success=luck or Success = network or Success=opportunity + determination, which is just as true as preparation + opportunity ≠ success. “Well it’s all true! All of that is true!” That’s the point. That’s why it’s stupid.

In the 1988 Olympics, he was cheated out of the gold medal, after which he went on a historic run, winning world titles from wide weight all the way up to heavyweight. Enter Antonio Tarver. No one gave Tarver a chance to beat Jones, after all, Jones just won the heavyweight title of the world. On November 8th, 2003, Jones fought Tarver, winning a razor close majority decision, which many people thought he lost. They fought a rematch 6 months later and Tarver, becoming a modern Buster Douglas, knocked Jones out in the 2nd round. According to the video, Jones offered Tarver a paltry sum of money for the...
